The Returning Headache
Over and over again you get the same headache. You know exactly what’s coming when you get a certain feeling. “Uh oh” is your first thought. “By the end of the day, I know I’ll be laying on the couch hoping the medications work this time.”
To me, headaches are the worst problem to have. I’ve dealt with low back pain (that’s how I got into Chiropractic myself), and I know how much that can affect your life. You have trouble sleeping, standing, and forget about any regular activities. Still, low back pain can be much more visible to your friends and family. They know you’re still having trouble by how you stand and sit.
With a headache, you seem to be the only one that knows when its coming and when its gone away. Your mood is effected, you can’t get much work done, and you just don’t feel like doing much of anything. You can get labeled as lazy, angry, grumpy, negative… etc all the while you’re in pain!
Still, if you know the medications aren’t really helping. You know that you’re exchanging your headache problem for problems with your liver and/or your kidneys later and the headache’s still not going away.
It’s time to try something else. The research is now suggesting that most headaches are actually cervicogenic in nature. That’s a fancy way of saying that the pain is coming from your neck, not your head. That your headaches are the result of a problem with your cervical spine, the bones in your neck.
I have patients that can walk in with a headache and walk out without one, all from getting an adjustment to their neck. Is it 100% of the time? No, but we’ll know pretty quick if chiropractic is the answer to your headache problems. We do an exam, and see first if you have any problems in your neck that may be leading to your problem.
If so, that’s the first step to getting you out of pain. If not, we’ll make any necessary referrals to help you get out of pain as fast as possible.
