Regarding Sciatica And Different Treatments Available

Sciatica tends to be a common problem amongst a large amount of people. It is a term used in the medical profession for numbness, pain, or weakness that occurs in the legs. A common misconception about sciatica is that it is a medical condition, when to the contrary, it is actually caused by a condition that is already existing. It is usually caused by pressure being applied to the sciatic nerve or also damage occurring to the nerve present there.

Some people describe the experience as a tingling feeling that is present in their legs. Others say that it is more like a burning sensation. In individuals who have very severe cases, they may not even be able to move properly. There have been cases of it happening in both legs, however it usually only happens in one. Pain can be felt in the hip or back of the leg. Individuals may also report feeling pain in their feet as well.

Sciatica can be diagnosed from several tests that will be run by the doctor. This usually includes blood tests, MRIs, and x-rays. Tests that show the range of motion in the individual are also used. If there is a problem with weak reflexes or the inability to bend the feet down, this can be caused by the ailment. A difficulty or weakness in bending the knees can also be present.

When the ailment is treated prior to nerve damage having the chance to worsen, there is a greater chance for the individual to have a full recovery. In other circumstances, a full recovery might not be possible and the individual may lose some of their motion. Pain can become prolonged and more consistent. This is a fairly good example of why it is important to have the ailment treated promptly.

Treatments offered can reflect on what type of damage has been done to the nerve and what the cause of it is. The best cases involve non surgical treatments where the individual recovers quickly. Situations where damage is caused to the nerve via pressure being put on it requires for this to be treated by surgery. The doctor might also prescribe injections or medication to treat pain and stop inflammation.

Another common treatment is physical therapy. This helps to promote muscle strength and improve range of motion with the individual. This in addition to other types of therapy can help the individual to recover at a faster rate while allowing them to regain some of their lost movement and function. However, the doctor may also recommend other options such as changes to the way you work at your job or suggestions for different ways to work if you are often standing or sitting.

The terms for prevention can vary depending on how severe the nerve damage is. What may work as a preventative measure for one individual may not work as well for another individual based on the differences in their condition. Prevention measures are best discussed with your doctor, who can explain the best solutions and treatments for you in your own situation with the ailment.

In order to have the most positive results in treating sciatica, the problem should be diagnosed and treated as soon as possible. Even if you only have a suspicion that it could be the cause of your pain, you should get examined by the doctor. The longer nerve pain is allowed to exist, the more likely there is to be severe damage to the nerve, which may not be completely repairable if the individual chooses to wait too long on treatment.

Kennewick Chiropractic Doctors Are Helping People Feel Better

Although many of us have frequent aches and pains, most of us are able to deal with them without having to change much about our lives. Sadly, for some people, this is not the case. Their pain is so intense and so frequent that stops them from participating in normal everyday activities, like going for a walk or to work. Fortunately, the Kennewick Chiropractic doctors at the Columbia Basin Spinal Rehabilitation are providing their patients with great care and results.

The Institute of Columbia Basin Spinal Rehabilitation is in Washington and is headed up by Dr. J. Ruben Rangel and Dr. Eric Kurtz. Their offices include state of the art technologies for treating and diagnosing patients. When treating patients, they believe in staying away from surgical methods and prescription medications, since they can be harsh and ineffective.

A good number of health issues can be treated by the doctors at this chiropractic center. Some of the conditions they help with include herniated discs, chronic neck pain, back pain, sciatica, and balance issues. They also aid patients with many other issues, like whiplash and chronic headaches.

These specialists offer quite a few different kinds of treatment services to their patients. Some of them are massage therapy, spinal decompression, chiropractic care, and nutritional counseling. They also provide rehabilitation.

When someone has back pain, a doctor will normally give them a prescription for some pills to suppress the pain. In certain special cases, they might even suggest surgery. These doctors do not use those methods. Instead, they perform a neurological examination on each patient to find the source of the problem. They then try and eliminate the cause without using medications or other harsh methods.

These Kennewick chiropractic doctors have had many success stories and their patients are sharing them with the public. They talk about how life was difficult and painful before receiving treatments and the amazing changes that happened after. If pain is getting in the way of your life, you may want to contact these chiropractic practitioners.

Haverhill Chiropractor Helps Locals Suffering From Sport Injuries

Haverhill chiropractic therapy can help you if you suffer from sport injuries. Chiropractics is the treatment of musculo-skeletal issues, such as misalignment in the body, muscle spasms and pain relief where interference in the nerves is present. A chiropractor will be able to identify problematic joints, nerves or muscles, whether or not they are painful. After medicine and dentistry, chiropractic is the third biggest of all the healing professions.

Treatment is dependent on the type of injury, the age and the diagnosis of each individual patient. Chiropractics is suitable as a treatment for anyone, male or female, baby, elderly person and even pregnant women as it does not involve harmful medications. Chiropractics restores mobility whilst alleviating the harmful side effects of pain-relief medications and it promotes the proper functioning of your muscles and joints whilst healing injured tissues.

A Haverhill chiropractor could treat you for numbness and pain resulting from the pinching of your sciatic nerve. The discs, or pillows that isolate the vertebrae could become injured and be ruptured or start to bulge. When this happens, the disc presses against the sciatic nerve, causing pain and or numbness in your feet and legs.

A Haverhill chiropractor is likely to use a method called disc decompression whereby the patient lies on a chiropractic bench. The bench is designed to slowly stretch the spine and in doing so cause the disc to snap into its normal space. This refills your discs with the liquid that supports them and bring about pain relief and healing of the injured disc.

Adjustments done using controlled forces are applied to restore proper functioning to muscles, joints and nerves that are plagued by pain, spasm or swelling due to sports injuries.

Visit a Haverhill Chiropractic surgery today if you are plagued by sports injuries and get a new lease on life. You need not put up with painful muscles, joints and nerves that negatively impact on your quality of life.

When you have a back problem and live near Haverhill, you should consider looking into Haverhill Chiropractic. There are many types of web directories that can help you make a appointment or even find out more about them. http://www.kenozachiropractic.com

Got Questions About Headaches?

In case you’re wondering, chiropractic does help a lot of patients that have headaches. I should rephrase that. Chiropractic helps people that have vertebrae out of alignment that are causing the symptom of a headache.

Coming up on March 1st, CORE Chiropractic is hosting a “Get Rid Of Headaches” Workshop. The title of this workshop could also add, “Naturally.” We’re looking to help people understand the most common reasons that people experience headache pain and what they can do about it without using drugs or medications of any kind.

Why trade one problem for another? Why stop your headaches and destroy your liver in its place? Taking medications in the short-term certainly has its place, but it’s not a long term solution.

What can you do about your headaches? How can chiropractic help? What are some nutritional options to consider before moving on to medications. How many headaches are too many?

Please give us a call at 713-622-3300 to reserve your place today. Seating is limited (we only have so many chairs!).

Workshop for Headaches coming up!

Last month we featured a workshop with Dr. Kean, explaining “The 5 Secrets To Permanent Weight Loss.” Our goal this year was to bring our patients just what they wanted to know about.

Our next workshop will be March 1st, and it will be the “The Get Rid Of Headaches Workshop”

Do you suffer with headaches? Know someone that does and just want to be able to help them get rid of them? Here’s a great chance for a free workshop covering just that.

Headaches are such a problem for many of our patients, and the worst part is, they usually suffer in silence. When you tell someone you have a headache, do you get sympathy? Or are you more inclined to give sympathy to someone clutching their back and hunching over?

Getting rid of headaches could help work production, relationships, and just overall quality of life. It’s time to hit headaches at their cause and finally, once and for all, make positive changes in their elimination.

Join us on March 1st at 6:00pm for the headache workshop. Bring a friend, but make your reservations now. Seating is limited.

You’ve Tried Everything Else…

So you’ve tried everything else and you still have low back pain and pain into the hip and leg. What’s wrong?

Had a case like this just this week. X-rays were “normal.” Nothing found on the MRI. Medications, acupuncture, and physical therapy did not create a lasting benefit.

Upon examination, I found a left sacroiliac problem (left part of the pelvis). It wasn’t moving much at all, especially when compared to the right. It was also very tender if you touched it.

The patients leg muscles, near the pelvis, were all very tight. She, like most of our patients, has a job where she has to sit in front of a computer all day. These are the same muscles that will get tight when doing the same activity for the 40+ hours per week that we do them (not including just sitting at home, driving, eating, etc).

Not every patient that shows up to our office has this ideal of a scenario. Fact is, she’s been trying things for over six months for the diagnosis to arrive so “easily.” I have the benefit of being the doctor that sees that patient after all of these other remedies haven’t worked out. Of course, knowing what didn’t work is a huge help in figuring out what will.

I’m glad that she didn’t give up on her own treatment. So many people start a treatment, and when it doesn’t work, they assume they’ll just have to live with it. They find themselves medicating each and every week, with no end in sight.

Instead, this patient received a specific adjustment to her lower back and pelvis. Some stretching and some additional therapies to help with the inflammation later, and she’s already feeling better. The process is just beginning, but I’ve seen these types of cases so often that I know it’s just a matter of time before she’s back to feeling great again.

Now You Can Follow Us On Twitter!

I’m not sure if you’ve discovered how much fun Twitter is yet. Maybe you’re not sure how to use it? If you’re using facebook, one of the most popular features is the “status update.”

Basically, people mention what they’re doing, what they’re thinking, or just something they’d like to say. Twitter is like that, but you’re limited to just 140 characters.

The best part, though, is that you can basically get instant access to tons and tons of celebrities, friends, and co-workers. You can “follow” anyone that hasn’t protected their tweets (which is just about everyone). There’s no guarantee that the celebrity will “follow” you or take notice of what you’re up to, but that’s not really the point.

I originally got started and followed everyone that followed me. That quickly got out of hand, and it became difficult for me to see the messages and updates of those that I was truly interested in. I also found that I had the misfortune of “following” people that weren’t doing anything more than trying to trick me into buying their products.

No worries, because I quickly learned that you don’t have to follow everyone, just those that you’re actually interested in. That means to get followed, you must stay interesting and not overload the twitterstream with nonsense. That’s my pledge to you.

I’ll try not to be boring!

If I Didn’t Fall Down, How Did I Get This Way?

One of the questions we will ask during an initial consultation is if the patient has any history of trauma. Since trauma can cause problems to the spine, it seems like an obvious question. The answers are nearly always the same, “Nope, no trauma.”

Most of us think of trauma as falling down, car accidents, … stuff like that. So if you didn’t fall down, how’d you get this way?

Patients either had trauma they don’t remember, or they have trauma that they don’t consider trauma.

Trauma You Don’t Remember

While falls and injuries you had when you were younger may have technically healed, that doesn’t mean that they play no part in how you feel today.

None of us learned how to walk the first time, or even learn how to ride a bike without some trauma. We just don’t remember it. Not every fall will lead to a future spine problem, but it’s just one thing to consider when you wonder “how you got this way.”

Did you play sports? Then you’ve had a trauma. Football? Multiple traumas — per game. You just were able to bounce back and felt fine so you assume that you are fine.

Trauma You Don’t Consider Trauma

The rest of us have what we refer to as micro-trauma or repetitive trauma. Little things done in a less than ideal way, over and over again. Like typing on your laptop while you lay sideways on the couch. Like having your computer monitor off to the side of your desk instead of straight in front of you.

Things like exercising, but never stretching properly. Or doing exercises in an unbalanced way (more front movements, nothing for the back).

These are all traumas and chances are you’ve had at least one of them.

It’s A New Year!

Yes, 2010 has finally happened. There are no flying cars and we still aren’t traveling to space (although it seems that we get closer every year). Major diseases still exist and our ability to grasp health doesn’t seem to be nearly as strong as our ability to help people live longer.

What do I mean?

Seems like people are living longer all the time, but by the look of many of the patients I meet, just a few are truly concerned about their health. Living longer should mean being healthier, not living with a dependency on multiple (if not dozens!) of medications being taken to raise one thing and lower another.

But it’s a new year! We can use this as an excuse to make some healthy changes for ourselves.

The basics? Eat right, exercise, stop stressing, get some sleep, and see your chiropractor. Need help in all of these areas? Then start with just one. Just pick one and figure out one healthy thing you can do to improve this area.

Once you’ve gotten in the habit of doing that one new healthy thing, it will become second nature and no effort at all to maintain. So time to pick another one until that habit too becomes second nature… and so on… and so on…

Find a realistic goal and take one positive step to achieving that goal. For me, the results are never fast enough (and that may be the case for you too). Still, if we take no action, we’ll get no results.

Time to take a step!
